Watering the Mulch??

Evan has gotten into the habit of going outside to his clubhouse before we leave for school in the mornings. Today it was 26 degrees outside and he insisted on going outside to the clubhouse for just a few minutes. SO I bundled him up and out he goes. I went to the door to tell him it was time to leave and I saw him peeing from the top of the treehouse onto the mulch below. I'm not sure if he was trying to pee on the dog or was just peeing for the pure enjoyment of watching it hit the ground from that height. Once again, I'm thankful that we live out in the country. I snapped this picture shortly after he watered the mulch.

Future Runners?

For the past couple of weeks, both Parker and Grant have decided they are going to be little runners. They have both been putting time in on the treadmill and I'm so proud of them!! They are so excited when they come upstairs and report how far they went. I hope that they will want to run some 5K's with Bryson and me this Spring.

Breakfast in Bed

While the boys were on Christmas Break, I promised them that I would fix them breakfast in bed. SO the very last day (yes, I am a procrastinator) of break, I set the alarm and got up to fix Waffles, French Toast and bacon. I know - French Toast and Waffles do not really go together. But I have one that likes French Toast and two that like Waffles.

The boys loved their surprise and Evan now thinks that he should eat breakfast in bed every weekend! HA!

Hilton on The Landing

The boys love to go to the Landing and claim that when they grow up they are going to move to the Landing and share an apartment there. We thought it would be fun to surprise the boys and stay the night at the Hilton on The Landing during Christmas break.

Here are the boys in the hotel lobby while I was checking in. They were so excited about their surprise!
Here is the view from our balcony.

G-man soaking up the life!
The best mommy and daddy in the world. (the boys label when they found out about their surprise.)
Midnight snack.

Valentine's Craft

I saw a couple of super cute things on Pinterest with handprints and thought it would be a cute idea for a Valentine's decoration.

I had each of the boys trace and cut around their handprints and then I put them together on some scrapbook paper and put them in a frame. I think it would be fun to do this every year and then I can save each one in a scrapbook album and look back at them as they grow.

Avocado Corn Salsa Recipe

I have fixed this recipe a few times and it has always been a hit. It's not your ordinary chips and salsa. I like to take it to parties, because it's not something that you usually see, so I don't have to worry about a duplicate dish. A very good friend shared this with me a couple of years ago and I thought I would pass it along to you.

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

  • 1 (16 ounce) package frozen corn kernels, thawed
  • 2 (2.25 ounce) cans sliced ripe olives, drained
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 avocados - peeled, pitted and diced

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, mix corn, olives, red bell pepper and onion.
  2. In a small bowl, mix garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, cider vinegar, oregano, salt and pepper. Pour into the corn mixture and toss to coat. Cover and chill in the refrigerator 8 hours, or overnight.
  3. Stir avocados into the mixture before serving.

Happy New Year! - 2012

Hello friends!

I have been introduced to Pinterest and have very much enjoyed all the recipes and decorating tips from the blogs. . . . so I thought I would attempt to re-activate my blog. If nothing else, I can print my blog and remember all of the fun we have had this year with the boys!

We are on our last day of vacation/Christmas break. Bryson and I took the week between Christmas and New Year's day off and have really enjoyed spending time with the boys. We have played with their new toys, we took them to Branson for an overnight stay on the Landing. We went swimming and also watched Chipwrecked. We rang in the New Year with friends and family and had a great time!! The only thing missing was a little snow and hopefully we'll get some of the white stuff soon!

I haven't uploaded our Christmas Break pictures yet - but I can't post without pictures!! Below are family pictures from this summer. My very good friend Elizabeth took these pictures. You can see her work at http://www.stonesprairiestudios.com/

Parker is 9 years old (almost 10!). He is such a great kid!! He is so tender hearted and SMART! He loves to play soccer and is very creative. He is always writing something down and creating new schools or new lunch menus, new cities. He just amazes us every day!

Grant is 7 years old and is ALL BOY!! He shot his first deer this year and is really coming to love hunting. He loves his legos and like his brother, he can is also very creative! He will spend hours in his room just creating new inventions with his legos! He loves his dog Campbell and is so witty!! He says the FUNNIEST things!!

Evan was 4 when this picture was taken. He is now 5 and is just a delight! He keeps us on our toes - that is for sure!!! He LOVES to be outside all the time! He got a new ride on tractor and trailer for Christmas and has ran the battery down twice. He is so funny!!

I will leave you with the above pictures and hopefully will return later this week with an update from our crazy life with a Trio of Boys!
